What are some of the business considerations around these transformations? What makes a story a good candidate for becoming a film? How is it decided what films will be made into books?

David Morrell - My Other Career as a Horror Writer

Although David Morrell is best known for his thrillers, such as FIRST BLOOD, THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE ROSE, and THE PROTECTOR, he is also a multiple HWA Bram Stoker recipient and nominee whose short stories have appeared in most of the major horror anthologies of the past three decades. His horror novel THE TOTEM is cited in HORROR:100 BEST BOOKS. The Washington Post called it "one of the finest horror novels of the past twenty years." The Denver Rocky Mountain News called it "one of the ten scariest of all time." In this session, Morrell talks about his career as a horror writer and why his imagination seldom strays far from the genre, even in his thrillers."

Ed Lee will tell the stories behind two of his novels, and Alan Clark the stories behind two of his paintingsToo often, however, we concentrate on the inspiration for writers and artists, and neglect what inspired booksellers, publishers and convention organizers to dedicate their lives to horror. So here's a chance for them to reveal what makes them tick.
