Guests of Honor

More GoHs may be announced. Watch this space!

Local Artist GoH: Baron Dixon

We're very happy to honor Baron Dixon as our Local Artist GoH.

It is difficult to categorize artist Baron Dixon, which is deliberate on his part, not wanting to be pigeonholed into any one job or genre. For our purposes, though, he is painter of surreal, humorous cat imagery. What started out as a satirical joke in a college painting class backfired into a signature style all his own, which he calls "Neo-Catism" (because every art movement deserves its own pretentious name). When he is not creating his hallucinatory cat art, Baron can be found participating in various capacities with the local film and live theatre communities.

Author GoH: Maya Bohnhoff

We're very happy to honor Maya Bohnhoff as our Author GoH, sponsored by the Phoenix Filk Circle.

Born in California and raised in Nebraska, Maya's fascination with speculative fiction dates from the night her dad let her stay up late to watch The Day the Earth Stood Still. Mom was furious. Dad was unrepentant. Maya slept with a nightlight until she was fifteen and developed a passion for things that came from outer space or went bump in the night.

Maya started her writing career sketching science fiction comic books in the back row of her elementary school classroom. Her short fiction has since been published in Analog, Amazing Stories, Century, Realms of Fantasy, Interzone, and Jim Baen's Universe, and often anthologized. She's also been a finalist for the John Campbell, BSFA, Crawford and Sidewise awards. Her debut novel, The Meri, was a Locus Magazine Best First Novel. She penned a series of Star Wars novels with Michael Reaves, including the New York Times Bestseller, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Her most recent novel is The Antiquities Hunter: A Gina Miyoko Mystery from Pegasus Crime, which marks her first steps into the world of detective fiction.

Costuming GoH: Madame Askew

We're very happy to honor Madame Askew as our Costuming GoH.

Madame Askew is a time traveling tea aficionado, obsessed with fantastical, historical fashion and the proper uses for headgear. When Madame is not preoccupied with tea, she operates a small atelier where she creates fanciful bespoke garments, underpinnings and hats for delightful humans from the Steampunk set. Perhaps best known for her whimsical tea adventures with her partner, the Grand Arbiter, Madame is also delighted to teach sewing workshops and to host regular live sewing teatorials with her dear friend Temperance.

Filk GoHs: Jeff & Maya Bohnhoff

We're very happy to honor Jeff & Maya Bohnhoff as our Filk GoHs, kindly sponsored by the Phoenix Filk Circle.

Jeff and Maya have an identity crisis. Their music is sometimes uproariously funny parody (like their spot-on Bohemian Rhapsody parody Midichlorian Rhapsody, or hauntingly beautiful, like Road to Jerusalem or Manhattan Sleeps. One way or another, their music will create strong emotions. Jeff and Maya have been creating music together since 1979, and plan to continue for some time to come.
